A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. John 13:34
When I was growing up, my parents always got my sister and me sweet treats on Valentine’s Day. We’d have a nice dinner as a family, and celebrate being a family.
That made me feel so special. No matter where I was in my love life (since, you know, most years growing up I didn’t get valentines from the boys I liked) I always knew that I was surrounded by a family who loved me. That’s what Valentine’s Day always meant to me.
No matter what your view of Valentine’s Day is, it’s hard to argue against the idea of showing love to the important people in your life. That includes family! Here are some suggestions of how to show love to your family this Valentine’s Day, or any day of the year!
♥ Go out to lunch or dinner. This is a great way to be with family, especially if you don’t get to spend much time with them (or even if you do!). For a lot of people, going out to lunch or dinner is a special treat, so why not share it with the special people in your life!
♥ Bake some sweet treats. Baked goods are made with love, and are meant to be shared with the people in your life. Make some cookies, cupcakes, brownies, whatever your specialty is. Then decorate them and either hand deliver them or ship them to faraway family!

♥ Write love letters and leave them around the house. Sweet words really make people feel loved! Write some secret love letters for the people in your house, and leave them where you know they will be found.
♥ Send flowers to distant relatives. Imagine, your family member hearing a surprise knock at the door and the delivery man standing there with roses. Wouldn’t they feel special?! Sending flowers doesn’t have to be reserved for your significant other… rather, send flowers to your mom or your sister!

♥ Share your life with them. Your family wants to know what is going on in your life, so be willing to share that with them! Call your family members with exciting news, or just call to chat and catch up. Open communication is a great sign of an open and loving heart – and it lets them know that they are important enough to you to include them in your life.
♥ Spend time together. Take time out of your life to spend it with the people who matter most. I know it can be hard to find time to be with family, especially if you don’t live close, but they will always be more important than the other things, like work, that keep you busy, so set aside some time for them.
There is really no wrong way to show love, as long as it is genuine. So get creative and aim to not only show your love to the important people in your life, but to shower them with it!
